Our History
EmpowerLife Skills Network was founded on a simple yet powerful belief: every individual deserves the opportunity to live with confidence, dignity, and independence. Our organization was born from nearly a decade of firsthand experience serving individuals with developmental disabilities and witnessing both the successes and the gaps that existed within the support system.
Our founder dedicated nine years to the nonprofit sector, working closely with individuals, families, service coordinators, and community partners throughout California’s developmental services system. During that time, he celebrated countless achievements alongside the people he served, but he also recognized a significant need for a different approach to Independent Living Skills (ILS) services, one that focused not just on completing tasks, but on empowering individuals to build the skills and confidence necessary to achieve lasting independence.
Too often, support services emphasized doing things for individuals rather than teaching them how to do things for themselves. Our founder envisioned an organization where every interaction would be centered on education, encouragement, and personal growth. He believed that true independence is achieved by equipping individuals with the knowledge, practical skills, and self-confidence to make informed decisions and navigate everyday life successfully.
Driven by this vision, EmpowerLife Skills Network was established to redefine what quality Independent Living Skills services should look like. From the beginning, our commitment has been to deliver high-quality, person-centered services that recognize each individual’s unique strengths, goals, and aspirations. Every service plan is thoughtfully designed around the person, not the program, ensuring that support is meaningful, individualized, and focused on long-term success.
Today, EmpowerLife Skills Network proudly continues that mission by empowering adults with developmental disabilities to develop essential life skills, increase their independence, and become active participants in their communities. We believe that every milestone, no matter how small, represents meaningful progress toward a more independent and fulfilling life.
